EonStor DS iSCSI RAID, zwölf 2.5" Festplatten auf 1 HE
2.5-Zoll Festplatten kennt man vor allem aus Notebooks, doch sind sie auch für externe RAID Systeme interessant: Da die Performance eines RAID Systems wesentlich von der Anzahl der Spindeln – also der Anzahl der verwendeten Festplatten – beeinflusst wird, lässt sich mit 2.5-Zoll Festplatten eine markante I/O-Performancesteigerung bei gleichbleibender Einbauhöhe erzielen.
Darüberhinaus sind die Stromkosten ein wesentlicher Faktor beim Berechnen der „total cost of ownership“ (TCO) eines Systems, also der Gesamtkosten, die das System in seiner Lebenszeit verursacht. 2.5" Festplatten verbrauchen wesentlich weniger Strom als 3.5" Platten.
Für diese Systeme könnnen auch Solid State Disks (SSD) mit besonders hoher Zugriffsgeschwindigkeit angeboten werden.
EonStor DS iSCSI RAID Systeme bieten drüberhinaus auch Snapshots und lokale Spiegelung/Replikation auf ein weiteres Volume an. Optional ist auch Replikation auf ein weiteres System und Thin-Provisioning möglich.
EonStor DS RAID Systeme gibt es auch mit Fibre Channel und mit SAS Interface.
