That iSCSI SANs are less expensive than Fibre Channel SANs was for a long time only valid with 1 Gbit networks. When it came to higher bandwidth and 10 Gbit Ethernet was required, the infrastructure became quite expensive.
This is not necessarily so any more: Netgear, one of the big players among the Ethernet switch manufacturers, offers also 10 Gbit switches which make this technology attractive not only for uplink, but also for complete 10 Gbit networks. Whether for iSCSI SANs or for high performance NAS servers – with the Netgear ProSafe XSM7224S enterprise quality networks can be implemented easily and at low cost. These switches can be offered with one or two power supplies and can be equipped with standard SFP+ modules.
